Either you love it or hate it, camping is something that many people seem to can't enough. Often families leave the comforts of their home and sleep in a vinyl dome on the hard ground. It’s amazing to me what we leave to live like animals - yet, people love it.
What I find interesting is how so many people spend thousands of dollars so that they have everything that they have at home. They buy beds, kitchens and high-end stoves - so that they feel like they are home.
Make no mistake - they still want to feel like they are roughing it.
One of the greatest frustrations with going camping is keeping your food cold. It's disappointing when you lose food because it spoils. Often you have to keep buying ice and filling up your cooler.
This year I took my family to a KOA, and decided that I would try something a little unconventional. I decided to bring along our ice maker. Now we love our ice maker at home. We use it to make ice for our drinks, we use it to create ice coffee, and we use it to make some pretty awesome desserts. The question that I had was how would our ice maker do camping?
Below is what we learned.
Having the ice maker along was a great help. We kept shovelling the ice into the cooler or our drinks. We didn’t have to worry about our food spoiling and didn’t have to spend the extra money on purchasing ice. Now, we did have electricity at our camp site, and obviously that would be important. I think at the end of the day, having an ice maker was a great benefit to our camping adventure.
Because having an ice maker camping was such a great help and because I recommend it to anyone going camping. I have put together a list of ice makers that are perfect for going camping.
Before I get into showing you the ice makers that are worth your consideration for your next camping trip. I want to quickly give you a list of what you need to be looking for when shopping for an ice maker for that next camping trip.
First, you need to find an ice maker that is light and easy to carry. You don't want to be lugging around an ice maker that weights 50 lbs. An ice maker that is light and easy to transport is an essential feature you need to take with you on the go.
Secondly, You want an ice maker that is small and light but also can produce enough ice to meet your need. When you go camping, you use a lot of ice, so finding an ice maker that produces a lot of ice and at the same time is easy to carry is very important.
Thirdly, you’re going to want an ice maker that is somewhat quiet. You don’t want it to be so loud that it keeps everyone up at night. Finding a machine that is quiet, light and produces enough ice is what we set out to find.
